I have owned several Eastman guitars over the last decade or so and I have found that they are an excellent alternative for those of us who can't afford a Martin or a Taylor. However, they seem to be going up in price and are not such great values lately.

I have also purchased a Recording King RD-328 and an RD-342 in the last couple of years. Both have been VERY good in every way. They each have Excellent build quality, beautiful cuts of wood, great low action, and wonderful, rich sound. I would say that I have come to consider these two Recording King guitars the best value in acoustic guitars on the market, beating out Eastman. If you have had some experience with these guitars, I would like to get your opinion.

Thinking specifically about the black varnish version, wondering if anyone who has one of these models (or the other 'v' finishes) can comment on how rapidly/easily the finish has aged and in what way (checking, 'show-through' spots getting larger, etc.).

I've been told (and read/seen on YT by reviewers) that this finish wears much faster than typical nitro. Some of the SB-59 V's I've seen have more or less aging/wear-through and just curious what owners might have to say about this.

Despite a really bad J-45 experience a few years ago I have been keeping my eye open for one - a pure acoustic. Thing is pretty much every one I spot has a pup fitted, most frequently at the factory. Why? I know the J-45 is a stalwart of the recording world, but is it partly down to the unplugged sound frequently being poor?

Has anyone here ever looked for replacement buttons for the E1-2-3 series open gear tuners? I've been thinking that adding a wood button would look really nice.  just can't find anything in my usual sources. Not really looking to do anything custom or overly expensive. Thanks in advance.....

 I'm new here. Ran across this site looking up reviews on the E1OM-Classic and the E3OME. I was rooting around youtube and found a channel by The Acoustic Shoppe. That is where I say Eastman on. I was thinking of ordering from them but was first wondering if anyone out there has bought from them before and if it was a good experience?

I saw a used AC522CE-GB on Dave's Music Store. It looked good and was listed as being in 'excellent' condition. I know some of you here have ordered from Dave's. So I sent an email to them, asking if they'd look the guitar over and let me know if there were any obvious ding/scratches/etc. on it.

This is the reply I received: "Stephen, No noticeable cracks for dings or scratches, pretty much in excellent condition with the original hardshell case. This one is just a used trade that came in." With that assurance, I went ahead and ordered the guitar. It arrived about 45 minutes ago. I opened up the shipping carton, pulled out the guitar case, and opened the latches. As soon as I lifted up the neck, I could feel something wrong: there was a HUGE crack running down the treble side of the neck from the nut (see pic). 


The guitar is entirely unplayable. I sent email to Dave's, telling them I expect a full refund ASAP, and that they should pay for the return of the guitar as it's not in the condition they claimed it to be in. I'm waiting to hear back from them, and I'm hoping this isn't going to turn into an expensive fiasco....

Has anyone else had a similar experience with Dave's? How's their customer service when someone has a problem?
