So I stopped into a shop yesterday down in Myrtle, they had some LS16's which I was very interested in -- specifically the rosewood with the A.R.E. (torrified, yahama-style).  Sounded nice, and I also played the LS/TA version. Very much accehntuated for chorus and reverb, and adjustable.  The guy said they are flying off the shelf! Anyway, the TA's were also nice but nothing you cannot do with a basic integrated amp like my Marshall AS50. I will say the fit-and-finish was stellar, and the color blend on the burst was one of the best I've seen in awhile.

But then he pulled out an AC5R - Yamaha's higher-end concert version with SRT sound, cutaway, rosewood, engleman, etc.  It was pretty fabulous.  Easy to play, great projection and balance, made even my own hamfisted fingerstyle sound great, and the dual-source electonic sound was easily colored to my taste.  I really liked it as much as any 814 I had ever played, and of course he tried to 'upsell' me to it.  But since I am a career tightwad coming off a hurricane, it didn't work....

But I did have a good impression of the LS - I would like to have seen scalloped bracing - it seemed a little tight - but that may have been me.  When I got home I pulled out my Eastie, and I don't think the LS really has an advantage (at least not a new LS).  But in fairness, I think I may go back and A/B the LS16 against my E6om in the same conditions (I had a Fishman Artist in the shop, and my home has the Marshall).

Okay, long post... but is anyone here familiar with teh LS series? They are all built the same, the exceptions are the finish colors and the TAS/non-TA options.  Price is pretty aggressive for an all-solid instrument, and of course Yamaha has a top-tier reputation in both instruments and electronics.  Thoughts???

This one is the nicest figured 486 I've seen in a very long time and add to that they're not charging $2000 uplift for the nicer wood like "some" companies do.

ER4's new, best friend:

Borrowed a friends Loar lh600 on a gig.....not amplified, and man, it was cutting loud. Found a Loar LH-700 with a bound pickguard for under a grand.....flawless looks and sound. I never really feel safe bringing my Eastman 904 or 910 to gigs.......not unless i’m Playing solo and the guitar is always with me. Maybe I am over protective....who knows. My loar arrived today, and darn, it too is just too beautiful to have on a stage. I’m thinking of picking up a really well worn box that I won’t be worrying about all the time. Anyway, here is the Loar......definitely has the old swing vibe happening.

Hoping to get some ideas you guys might have as to what type of pickup I can put on my 904 without losing any of its beauty. I have been using a standup mic while gigging with a small swing band. I tend to get a little to energetic while playing and have tapped the mic more than once. Except for an endjack, I promised my guitar that I would not put any holes in her.

Greetings to all.  I have been searching for a decent priced hollowbody jazz guitar for quite some time now and yesterday I finally purchased an Eastman AR580CE from Guitar Riot here in Cleveland.  A beautiful great sounding guitar that has a lot of features that are only found on much higher priced guitars.  Anyway, I just wanted to say share my new guitar purchase with other Eastman ethusiasts .

Are the saddles 1/8" or 3/32" wide?

Referring specifically to the E series - though all flattops may be the same size.

Can anyone tell me whether the much vaunted (by Taylor at least) 'V' bracing is worth a carat (British colloquial expression)?

I’ve had my Eastman E10D-TC for almost a year now and it’s an amazing guitar. It’s all the power i’ve ever wanted in a dread. Don’t get me wrong, this is the best Eastman I’ve ever played. The fit and finish is great but it is a different tone than the rest of my Guitars. I’ve been a Martin fan ever since I started playing guitar and i’ve been gassing for a D-18 for a few years. I currently own 3 USA made Martins and I love them. I originally bought this guitar when shopping for a D-18, and after a year the desire for a D-18 is coming back again. If it wasn’t for wanting the D-18 I would have no reason to sell the E10D-TC.

I don’t generally like getting rid of gear that is why I am hesitant. But I trust the the opinion of the people on this forum. What is your advice?

Hi, folks, happy Saturday!!

Well, I just sold my much-loved RK Shoenburg 00. Mint, with case, etc.  Great little guitar, dry enough to bang some blues, gospel, and fingerstyle, and with plenty of projection, but the truth is I play the E6 om - like all the time, and the RK wasn't getting any time. I am sure you folks are sick of hearing me drone on about the E6.....

Anyway, I have been all set to pick up an E8 om (or an E20 om TC if one is ever seen in captivity again), but I have been contacted by an aquaintance who has his Larrivee L40R for sale. I know the Larry's are pretty well-regarded, and I am looking for a complimentary rosewood, so I am curious about this Larrivee as compared to an E20 (or E8) om.  Conversely, how close are the E6 om and E8 om to each other?

My point (and I do have one...) is, if the E8 and E6 om's are pretty close in tone as far as range, balance, etc (mahogany /rosewood differences notwithstanding), I wonder how the L40R compares?  I've read the Larrivee neck is a touch beefier, and with a different fretboard radius, and I am one of those folks who cares about neck feel.  

But teh Larrivee L series is touted as a great step between a dread body and an om, comfortable but with substantial lower end (and the well-known Larrivee balance).

Does anyone have any experience with this guitar?  I would sincerely appreciate any insight from anyone.  Meanwhile, there's a little shop who I think has a Larrivee or two, I will check 'em out today.
